Samantha is a full-time direct support professional (DSP) and mother of six girls all under the age of nine. She said she is passionate about helping people with disabilities, although it is putting a strain on her relationship with her family.
“My husband and I have spoke about me applying and looking for other employment,” Samantha said. “With health insurance being so expensive, we don’t have many other options. I currently work the midnight shift and my husband works the second shift. Most days, we see each other a total of two hours. I work as much as 70 hours in a week.
“Soon, if things don’t change, I will have to make the decision to give up what I love in order to support my family — I find it so devastating. With my feelings set aside, the people like our clients at Streator Unlimited deserve the best care possible. They deserve to be treated with dignity and respect.
