The Illinois Department of Human Services, Division of Developmental Disabilities has proposed an overhaul in how they calculate state funding for the hours DSPs provide care. This would cut about $87 million in funding and eliminate nearly 2.5 million DSP service hours in group homes. That’s nearly 10% of all DSP hours, cutting our statewide workforce throughout the system. People with disabilities desperately need increased state funding—not a massive cut in services!
These cuts are scheduled to be implemented on March 31, 2024, but we need to fix it NOW so they do not find their way into the Governor’s proposed budget in February, which is the starting point for budget negotiations throughout the spring.
